UP NEET MDS Counseling Process

So, I will start from the basics.

There are 3 types of colleges – Government, Private, and Deemed dental colleges.

To apply to 85% of the seats in Government colleges and 100% of seats in private colleges, you must attend the NEET MDS counseling which is conducted by the UPDGME.

Understood?

So for securing an MDS seat through DGME, there are a few procedures you have to follow. And I will them below and explain about it in detail.

The steps involved in the counseling are:

  • Registration.
  • Security Fee Payment.
  • Document Verification.
  • Round 1 Choice Filling.
  • Round 2 Choice Filling.
  • MOP-UP Round.
  • Stray Vacancy Round.

These are the steps involved and I will elaborate on each step in detail here.

Step 1: Registration

You have to register for the counseling by paying a registration fee of Rs.1000 through their official website – upneet.gov.in.

During the registration, you have to provide all your academic and personal details accurately. Please do recheck with the information provided during registration.

Step 2: Security Fee Payment

After the registration, you have to pay security fees of Rs.30,000 if you are only opting for Government Colleges or Rs.1 lakh if you are opting for private colleges.

A few things you must keep in mind are:

  • If you are not allotted any seats, then your security amount will be refunded.
  • If you have been allotted a seat and you have rejected the seat, your security amount will be forfeited.

Step 3: Document Verification

This is a step where you must keep all your original documents handy. I have listed the documents needed in the next section. Normally document verification used to happen offline, but this year it was online. Yes, this made the procedures a bit easier.

It is the decision of the UPDGME how to conduct the document verification procedure.

Step 4: Round 1 of Counseling

When the dates are announced, you have to log in with your credentials and choose the college and department of your choice. In case, have not been allotted any seats you can attend the 2nd round of counseling.

Step 5: 2nd Round of Counseling

The procedure is the same as the first round.

Step 6: MOP-UP Round

The candidates can opt for the seats that are vacant even after the 2nd round of counseling through the MOP-UP round. It used to be offline, but now it is online.

Step 7: Stray Vacancy Round

The leftover seats even after the MOP-ROUND is transferred to the college and students can take it directly from the college management. The only thing is that you must be registered on the UPNEET website.

If you have not registered in the counseling, then you are not eligible to take the seats in Stray Vacancy.

How to choose a good dental college in UP NEET MDS Counseling?

Now that you have an idea about counseling procedures and fee structure, you might be wondering which college should choose, Right?

So here I will just give you a few things you must keep in mind while choosing a college.

  • Patient Flow: There should be a decent patient flow, 150 to 250 is a decent number and most of the good colleges have patients in this range. And there are one or two colleges that have very high patients, other colleges are just doing marketing gimmicks.
  • Number of PG Students: There are many colleges that have 8-9 MDS students in each batch. That makes it hectic for you to get enough exposure and special cases.
  • Faculties: Even if the college is not having many facilities, I won’t mind. Faculties must be good, they must be interested in teaching you well.
  • Management: There are very few colleges that are managed by a good team of people. Because few colleges charge very high extra or hidden fees, which makes the whole course go out of your budget.

These are the basic things that I will keep in mind, if want me to add anything else to this list, please do comment below.
