The BDS admission process varies slightly everywhere based on the state, affiliated university, and type of dental institute you plan to apply to.

However, the basic counselling pattern is similar in the Delhi NCR region. You can refer to the outline given below:

  1. Application form Registration

  4. Merit List Publication
  5. Option Entry And Locking Round
  6. Result announcement

Application form Registration

The BDS admission process is conducted through NEET UG counselling in any dental college. The first step to participating in this counselling is filling out the application form.

You must register online to participate in the NEET UG counselling based on the college you plan to attend. Registration must be done through the admissions website designated by the counselling authorities.

Usually, the NEET UG registration is conducted over one month, and this year, it has been announced from February 9, 2024, to March 9, 2024.

For example, if you are planning for BDS in Uttar Pradesh, you must register for UP State counselling conducted by the UP-DGME through their admission website.

Registration Fees Payment

A registration fee is charged to fill out the application form for any counselling. You can expect a registration fee between Rs.2000/- to Rs.5000/- depending on the type of college, counselling, and state you attempt.

For example, if you register for a private dental college in Uttar Pradesh, the fee is Rs.2000/- but for a deemed dental university, the fee is Rs.5000/-.

Security Deposit Payment

The security deposit is a refundable fee charged by the NEET counselling authorities. This also varies based on the type of college you are targeting for admission.

You can expect this fee to range between Rs.25,000/- to Rs.2,00,000/- based on the state’s type and NEET regulations.

For example, the security deposit fee for a government dental college in Uttar Pradesh is Rs.25000/-, but for a private dental college, it is Rs.1,00,000/- lakh.

Merit List Publication

The NEET counselling authorities publish the merit list after the registration round. It displays details of the students who are eligible to participate further.

Option Entry And Locking Round

During the option entry round, you must choose the dental colleges where you plan to take BDS admission. There is no limit to the number of choices you want to add!

The choices you have entered must also be locked, commonly referred to as choice locking. Both of these rounds are accomplished together over 3-5 days.

Result Announcement

You will receive allotment results a day or two after the choice-filling round. The allotment is processed based on the NEET rank and the choices you fill!

Release of Allotment Letter

Finally! If you get an allotment for BDS at any dental college, an allotment letter will be on its way!

Reporting and Document Verification

Once allotted, you must prepare for the last and final step of counselling. The document verification is in front of the admissions authorities.

This is a crucial step to confirm your BDS admission, and you must have all your original documents. The documents will be verified for eligibility during this reporting procedure.

After your complete verification, you will get your ticket to join the BDS college you have been allotted to!

Why BDS in Delhi NCR?

After learning the complete details, I am sure you still have some fears and doubts regarding the NCR colleges. Don’t worry! I am here to help you with that! And to begin with, I want to ask, “Why not BDS in Delhi, NCR?”!

As a student, I also had my list of expectations for a dental institute! I wanted a good college with experience, excellent infrastructure and facilities, a good number of patients, etc.

So, I visited the dental colleges of the NCR region. I have seen that most colleges meet all the student expectations!

The colleges are well established, and most are under 20 years old. If I talk about the infrastructure, that was also good, however diverse. So, you can find ordinary to average and even grand college campuses for BDS in the NCR!

In terms of facilities, most dental colleges in the NCR region have spacious classrooms, lecture theatres, well-equipped laboratories, a library, a general hospital, and even arrangements for sports. Some dental colleges even have all kinds of advanced equipment and technologies.

In a dental college, the daily patient flow is the most significant factor for BDS students. In the NCR region, I observed that around 10% of colleges have a vast patient flow, and 70% have an average to good patient flow. However, the OPD is slightly uneven in the remaining 30% of colleges. So, be careful with this!

I have observed that the NCR region has two more important things: connectivity and affordability. This is equally important for any student planning to pursue a five-year course in any dental college!

Connectivity is crucial since you will have to stay or regularly travel to your college campus for such a long time. Right? Roads, local transport, airport connectivity, and railways are important for those from other states or faraway lands. I found it very convenient to travel to most of the NCR dental colleges. This is a great advantage! The Delhi Metro Train also connects most NCR areas to the state capital.

Affordability in the NCR region applies to the cost of education and daily living charges. Yes! In NCR, you also get the advantage of an affordable fee structure and a good-quality dental college. Certainly! Not all of them are great, but considering the huge number of colleges, the chances of finding a good match within your budget are higher! So, choose wisely!
