Hello Everyone! Have you checked out the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Dental College? It’s the famous JSS Dental College, located in Mysore, Karnataka. JSS Dental College is one of the most preferred dental colleges among dental students. Both Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in all 9 branches are offered at JSS.

Did you consider applying for admission to JSS Dental College? Well, first, let’s find out how suitable JSS Dental College will be for your dental education!

I found out that JSS Dental College is a dental college and is affiliated with the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSSAHER), which is a deemed university. Established in the years 1986-87, it has 37 years of legendary status in the dental world. The all-India rank of JSS Dental College is 11th, and it is accredited A++ by the NAAC.

Apart from that, reviews about JSS Dental College from various resources compelled me to visit this college! So, you can read the details I gathered from my visit below.

How is JSS Dental College Mysore?

It took me almost 1 hour and 30 minutes by road to reach the JSS Dental College from Bangalore. Precisely, the distance from JSS to Bangalore is 150 km, and can be easily traveled by all kinds of transportation. Direct trains from Bangalore are also available to Mysore, and the railway station is just 10 minutes away from the college campus. From the Bangalore airport, it takes about 2 and a half hours to reach there.

The campus of JSS is quite huge and very well-structured. With a lush green, calm, and aesthetic campus, JSS has the perfect environment for studying! I reached JSS around 9.30 AM, and it took me almost 3 hours and a half to speculate on the entire dental college.

However, I was impressed by the number of patients waiting in the OPD area as I entered the dental hospital! The classrooms and laboratories were equipped with smart technologies. They also had multiple research labs and advanced equipment in most departments for both undergraduates and postgraduates.

Fortunately! I also got the opportunity to speak to a few teachers and students from multiple states. I gathered the knowledge that the faculty of JSS Dental College was highly skilled and experienced. Some students informed me that they are exposed to all the recent advances and developments in dentistry.

Time-to-time the college introduces some in-house certificate programs and value-added courses at JSS. These courses are focused on the academic advancement and overall development of their students.

Briefly, let me also give you an insight into the hostel and food facilities at JSS Dental College. They have boarding facilities located within walking distance from the college blocks, inside the same campus.

The hostel fees are also based on which hostel block you are staying in and the amenities available. Also, my lunch at JSS Hostel was healthy and nourishing! The quality of the food served was good!

A nicely built sports arena in the hostel’s backyard completes the outlook of the JSS Dental College. It is for recreational purposes for students and is designed to play many kinds of indoor & outdoor games.

Admission Process to JSS Dental College Mysore

As I mentioned previously, JSS Dental College is affiliated with a deemed-to-be university. So, the direct passage to JSS Dental College is the All-India MCCI Counseling for deemed universities. Once NEET is over and the results are out, this counselling process will be conducted online. The counselling process is very crucial, and you should understand each step carefully to prevent errors!

Both BDS aspirants and MDS students are required to participate in the respective levels of NEET counselling. Hence, I have elaborated on the complete process of the admission process to JSS Dental College below. Check it out here!

  • Online Application.
  • Registration Fee.
  • Security Deposit.
  • Choice-filling.
  • Choice-Locking.
  • Results.
  • Document Verification.

Online Application

I am sure you must have already gone through the online application process during your NEET exam. This is similar to the NEET counselling process as well; You have to register your identification details using the same contact number and mail ID. Additional information, such as an address, past school or college records, and caste/category information, is also required to complete the NEET registration form for counselling.

The registration process is very important and must be done correctly. The chance for correction must be prevented! So, when we guide students here at DentalFry, we help them prepare all these documents before we start the registration. So, you, too, can try doing that!

Registration Fee

Like any other application form, counselling charges are also levied on NEET applicants. The registration fee is Rs.5000/- for everyone and must be paid online to complete the application form. You can pay this along with the security fee as well!

Security Deposit

The security deposit for participating in the NEET counselling at JSS Dental College is Rs. 2,00,000/- for both BDS and MDS aspirants. I have come across many students who face problems while paying the security deposit online. Mostly! This happens when the card payment limit is below Rs. 2 lakh. So, to make the security deposit payment, use a card with a sufficient payment limit!

Eligible students can then participate in the option-entry round for dental colleges and courses. BDS and MDS students can select the desired dental colleges and courses.

Two factors control the outcome! Your NEET rank and how strategic you are with your option entries. So, before you go ahead, evaluate your dental college choices properly. MDS students must gather the ideas of the particular department they are interested in.

We always advise our students to do research on the dental colleges they are interested in in terms of DCI recognition, University Affiliation, NAAC accreditation, infrastructure, academics, etc. Apart from that, location, communication, and a safe environment are also crucial factors we suggest you know!

The choice-filling round is followed by the choice-locking, where you lock your entries. In case you miss it, the choices get auto-locked once the round is closed. So, proper choice-filling is a very important step to prevent the locking of unwanted or unplanned options.

The Medical Counseling Committee of India (MCCI) will process the allotment of BDS or MDS seats. The results will be announced, and you can check out your allotment. You will also receive an allotment letter from the counselling authorities.

Document Verification

This is the last and final step of your admission process to JSS Dental College. Once you are allotted to JSS Dental College, you will have to report to the admissions authorities at JSS physically. There, your document verification will be carried out. Apart from that, certain documents uploaded to the college website, medical evaluations, etc. are part of this process.

During this physical reporting procedure, your original documents will be verified by the authorities at JSS. We suggest you organize them well beforehand because the reporting round starts immediately after the allotment and lasts for 5-6 days only for each counselling round.

One of my students also informed me that an amount of Rs.2000/- was charged for the college form for reporting at JSS. These kinds of charges apply at other colleges as well, so try to carry some extra currency when you go for the reporting. However, JSS Dental College also has an SBI ATM inside the campus, just at the main gate entrance.

The annual tuition fee for MDS specialities ranged between Rs. 4,61,650/- and Rs. 9,61,650/- per annum at JSS Dental College. These fees are based on the branch you choose. Apart from this, miscellaneous fees also apply to MDS students.

Boarding charges at JSS are based on the type of hostel and amenities you choose. There are single-seater, triple, and double-seater bedrooms with the necessary basic amenities. Your hostel expenditures will range from Rs.85,000/- to Rs. 1,40,000/- per year if you stay at JSS Dental College Hostel.

One of my students studying there has taken up a paying guest facility near the college. If you want to check out other boarding facilities, there are also a few options near and around the campus area. However, a hostel is the best place to stay during the period of your dental education!
