Direct Admission in AB Shetty Dental College Mangalore 2024

Hola Everyone! The prestigious AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), Mangalore, is one of the oldest dental institutes in India. So, are you interested in learning how you can get there? Then let’s check out the ABSMIDS direct admission process, eligibility criteria, seats, fee structure, and certain crucial details here!

A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences was founded by Justice KH Hedge, who also pioneered the esteemed NITTE University. The latter was established under the NITTE Education Trust in 1979, and in 1985, the Dental College was started by them.

When I visited the campus, I landed at the Mangalore International Airport, and I reached ABSMIDS in an hour and a half by cab! It also cost me around Rs.1100/- which was fair! Mangalore Airport is well connected with all major cities, and you can even fly here directly from the UAE!

Talking about the campus facilities, I had a positive experience with the campus. The college is established on a huge campus area and has a grand infrastructure. The well-equipped dental hospital has more than 400 dental chairs and a decent patient flow. It has well-maintained dental clinics for both UG and PG students, well-furnished classrooms, and commendable training facilities for BDS and MDS students.

While returning from there, I learned the railway station in Mangalore is just 10-15 minutes away from the college. So, you can take this route if you want to travel to AB Shetty by train.

Additionally, the college is well connected to nearby states and cities like Bangalore, Kerala, Maharashtra, Chennai, etc. The students of AB Shetty Dental College also have access to free transport facilities regularly from the college to the city and back!

Apart from this, ABSMIDS is one of those dental institutes that has set many benchmarks on the academic front. PG students are exposed to research and recent technologies in dentistry. Students also said that the college organizes multiple certificate programs and encourages the participation of their students. Learning opportunities are great under the guidance of experienced and supportive faculty. The environment on the campus is also student-friendly!

Talking about BDS students, they are also treated equally and given the required platforms to learn. All kinds of dental treatments and protocols are taught in ABSMIDS. The curriculum followed is highly standardized and designed to offer the best benefits to their students!

After learning so many positives, we need to have a look at the key features of AB Shetty Dental College. So, if you are planning for BDS and MDS in ABSMIDS, Mangalore, here is the overview!

Who Is Eligible For Direct Admission to AB Shetty Dental College?

Of Course! You must secure information about your eligibility before applying to any college. So, this might help you check your eligibility status for BDS and MDS in ABSMIDS.

If you are targeting BDS, you can apply for ABSDIMS after passing the 12th exam with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology, and English. You must then appear and pass the NEET-UG exam with a qualified percentile. You must also be at least 17 years of age in the year of admission.

On the other hand, MDS aspirants must qualify for the NEET MDS exam after completing BDS. Further, they must have completed a one-year internship at a DCI-recognized dental college.

Admission Process to AB Shetty Dental College

AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences is affiliated with NITTE University, which is a deemed institution. Hence, the admission process is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee of India (MCCI).

Undergraduates must participate in the NEET UG counselling, and dental postgraduates must target the NEET PG counselling. You can follow this common outline for both levels because the process is the same.

  • Fill out the Application form for NEET UG counselling.
  • Pay the Registration Fee of Rs.5,000/-.
  • Pay the Security Deposit Fee of Rs. 2,00,000/-.
  • Do the Choice-filling.
  • Lock the choices you have entered.
  • Check out your allotment after the results.
  • Go for physical Reporting and document verification to ABSMIDS.

Some noteworthy points here are that you should be attentive and careful when you fill out the counselling registration form. The registration period is carried out for a minimum of 20-30 days for the NEET UG counselling.

There is a lot of scepticism regarding the security deposit! Don’t worry; it’s safe to pay the amount of Rs. 2,00,000/- for both UG and PG counselling. My work experience with students tells me that! You will get the refund, except it may take more time than you expected. Rest is safe!

The third stage of NEET counselling is preceded by a choice-filling round, followed by the choice-locking! This is crucial; you must be aware and thorough about the choices you are planning to make. Your allotment is based on the choices you make and your rank! So, target the options that are feasible for you in terms of rank, fees, and seats.

Once you are allotted the desired discipline in ABSMIDS, pack your bags for Mangalore! Refer to the table above for communication details! You must carry all the essential original documents for verification. Your admission confirmation for BDS at ABSMIDS is done here!

Is Ab Shetty Dental College Expensive?

Your BDS four-year complete course can be covered for approximately Rs.20,00,000/- excluding the miscellaneous fees, which are minimal in ABSMIDS. The MDS fee is based on the specialty and ranges from Rs.9,00,000/- to Rs.30,00,000/-, depending on the branch, for three years.

Boarding charges at AB Shetty Dental College include food and hostel fees. These will cost you between Rs.1,10,000/- and Rs. 2,00,000/- depending on the facility choice.

More often, I have come across the statement from students and parents that AB Shetty Dental College is expensive for BDS. However, for MDS students, the fee is quite reasonable considering the facilities and academic standards of the college.

I want to share my own experience based on what I witnessed during my visit to AB Shetty Dental Institute. Although the BDS course fee might look slightly high, students also get the best benefits in exchange for that!

At AB Shetty Dental College, undergraduates are offered exposure to advanced learning modules. It also involves interaction and learning about many technological advances. Postgraduates can also get their hands on different digital systems since the new generation of dentistry encourages the use of AI tools. Residents have to practice digital case recording and management here! Great! Isnt it? So many benefits are rare under one college!

In summary, the colleges house an array of basic to modern technological equipment to enable a wholesome learning environment for the students. These amenities are rarely found under one roof So, the course fee is fair considering these features and the unbeatable reputation of the college!
