Hello there! Have you just completed your 10+2 and are planning to take the BDS course? Well, it is a regular norm that, after your 12th grade, you appear and qualify for the NEET UG exam and participate in the NEET counseling to secure a BDS seat somewhere. 

As said somewhere a few years ago, what caught my attention was the sudden hike in the number of admissions in the BDS seats in deemed universities. So, a discussion about the specifics of these deemed universities is a dire necessity!

Important: Never join private dental colleges that are not NAAC accredited. Dental Council of India made it clear that NAAC is mandatory for all dental colleges.

Presently, India has 32 deemed universities, which add up to 3100 BDS seats in the All-India Deemed University seat matrix.

These seats include 2946 management seats/ paid quota seats, and they are open to everyone. Basically, these seats are domicile free! The remaining seats include 87 NRI category seats, and 67 seats are reserved for minorities in a few institutes as per the 2023 seat matrix.

Yes, anyone who is NEET qualified and fulfills the eligibility criteria for BDS admission can secure a seat in deemed universities. However, the allotment to any deemed university is rank based, so your AIR plays a significant role in the admissions process.

How many BDS seats in deemed universities are available for NRI students?

There is 15% reservation for NRI category students in deemed universities. However, it is not necessary that every dental college will offer NRI category seats. Currently, as of 2023, there are 87 BDS seats reserved for the NRI category students in deemed universities of India.

Are NRI fees for BDS high at deemed universities?

Yes, the NRI fees are double the management category fees in deemed universities. However, in a few colleges, the NRI fees and management category fees are the same as well.

How many BDS seats are there at Manipal Dental College?

There are two campuses at Manipal College of Dental Sciences. One is located in Manipal and the other in Mangalore. There are 100 management category seats in each campus.
