Hello Aspirants! Today I am here to discuss the most frequently asked question by all of you planning to appear in the NEET UG counseling. So, you must be looking for the total number of BDS seats in India.

Well! Finding it isn’t difficult for anyone, but we understand that getting to know about all the 329 dental colleges under one roof is that convenient to find! Especially when precise information is more needed! 

I did my research about the exact BDS seat scenario in India and found that, although there are 329 dental colleges in India, only 315 are available for admission.

The few remaining colleges are either purely postgraduate colleges or de-recognized dental colleges. Here, you must note that the latter refers to colleges that have lost affiliation with the Dental Council of India (DCI). 

Hence, first and foremost, you must learn about the recognition status of any college you are planning for BDS. Your BDS college must be DCI-recognized because this directly impacts your degree. Now, first, let us understand the importance of the complete BDS seat matrix.

BDS Seats – Why This is Important?

The correct information about the total number of dental colleges and available BDS seats can make a difference in your NEET counseling. This can help you even gauge the chances of seat allotment. You can decide where to target for the BDS admission based on your rank. 

This is extremely helpful for students from states with only a few or no dental colleges. Mostly, they have to plan for BDS admission in a foreign land. This information can guide you regarding which state or college will be convenient for you.

On the other hand, if you are planning for government BDS seats, you can evaluate the chances of getting the seat in your state or even other states. With this, you can also decide which NEET counseling will be right for you to participate in.

How many total BDS seats are in India?

Of the total dental colleges in India, 60 are government and 269 are private dental colleges. A share of these private colleges is occupied by the 32 deemed universities in India for BDS. Overall, there are 28,038 recognized BDS seats in India. These include govt., private, and BDS seats in deemed colleges.
