Admission Process to Saveetha Dental College, Chennai
Dental aspirants seeking admission to Saveetha Dental College must participate in the counseling carried out by the Medical Counseling Committee of India. The MCCI conducts separate counselings for UG and PG aspirants every year. As Saveetha Dental College is a deemed institute, admissions for both courses are conducted through them.
The MCCI counseling is quite simple when it comes to the steps of counseling. However, if you are new to the NEET counseling procedure, it might appear a little complex to you without elaborate knowledge of the steps involved. Additionally, my previous experience with our past student aspirants tells me that, even though it is simple, a thorough review of the process is really helpful to each student.
As you proceed with the NEET counseling for both BDS and MDS courses, you will come across 6-7 steps. So, here I have tried my best to simplify each step for your easier understanding. I hope this helps!
- Online Registration.
- Registration Fees Payment.
- Security Deposit Payment.
- Choice-filling & Locking.
- Allotment and Results.
- Reporting and Verification.
Like any other registration process, the first step in the MCCI counseling begins with the application form. This complete process is carried out online and you must enter information such as your name, NEET roll number, address, phone number, e-mail ID, 12th marks, and so on. In case you are an MDS aspirant, your past academic details of BDS are required to complete the application form.
Make sure you enter each detail correctly to prevent any errors in the form. As this application is a very important document, mistakes can cost you your peace and time for corrections. So be very careful and check twice before final submission.
There are two types of fees that apply for participating in the counseling process. The first amount is charged to complete your initial step of online registration. This amount is Rs. 5000/-, and it is not refundable. Its only when you complete this payment that your application process is complete.
On the other hand, the second amount, more commonly known as a security deposit, is Rs. 2,000.00/-, which is refundable. Anyone who fails to pay the security fee isn’t eligible to participate in the further steps of counseling. So, I hope here you understand that the payment of a security fee is crucial and mandatory for every participant.
I often come across queries from students regarding the refund of the security deposit fee. So, in case you have similar doubts, you can go through the exclusive column on the security fee I have added at the end of this blog.
As you pay the security deposit, you can now proceed for the option entry or the choice-filling round. It is the third step and one of the most important steps! This is where you get to enter your institutional preferences. Also, MDS students can add their specialty preferences along with the college options.
This is preceded by the choice-locking round, wherein you have to lock the options you have entered. However, its very important to understand that before you lock your options, you must be very sure about it. Once you lock it, you cannot change it again. So, I suggest that you research and do a thorough check-up about your preferred dental colleges.
Similarly, in the case of MDS aspirants, focus your research on the individual departments in the particular college of your interest. After all, my personal experience tells me that not all great colleges will have great departments for all branches. Likewise, not all lesser-known dental colleges will have average departments. Surprisingly, some lesser-known but good colleges outperform famous institutes in certain departments. Very rare but true!
So, here comes the most awaited round of the NEET counseling—the allotment round. The MCCI usually releases the allotment list in a span of 2-3 days after the option entry rounds. Allotted students have to then go for the last and final step, which is reporting and document verification.
Reporting for Saveetha Dental College is carried out in the administrative section of the institute. Once you are allotted here, you have to visit the college campus and report to the assigned authority, commonly referred to as the nodal officer. The person in charge will evaluate all your original documents and seal the verification process.
Unless you have any errors in the documents, you will be officially admitted to Saveetha Dental College, and your admission process will halt here!
Your allotment to Saveetha Dental College will require you to have a good NEET rank, especially if you are an MDS aspirant. Saveetha’s postgraduate wings are highly known and targeted even over government dental colleges by many students. We have been guiding aspirants like you every year for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
From my experience, I have observed that although both NEET UG and PG counseling go on for 4-5 rounds, dental institutes like Saveetha usually run short of seats after the initial rounds.
So, in case you are planning for Saveetha Dental College, you can reach out to us for more such interesting facts about the NEET counseling patterns. We would love to hear from you!
Saveetha Dental College Fee Structure
The fee structure of Saveetha Dental College is actually very high compared to the rest of the 300 dental colleges in India. During my counseling sessions, students get shocked when I inform them about the fee structure of Saveetha!
However, let me highlight one important thing here: its a privilege to study in such a reputed institute like Saveetha Dental College. Here, quality meets the costs charged, so you will truly invest your money in the right place. I have already mentioned the facilities for students above, which justifies the fees charged by the college!
Now let me give you some insight about the annual fees for dental courses in the college. If you are a BDS aspirant, it will cost you a minimum of Rs. 8,50,000/- for each year of tuition fees. These don’t include your hostel charges or any other miscellaneous fees in the institute.
The hostel fee of Saveetha is variable based on the type of accommodation you choose. From bunker-like dorm rooms furnished with basic, yet sufficient, amenities, you can also avail Super Deluxe Single Rooms. The minimum annual fees start around Rs. 30,000/- per year, and the highest is Rs. 150,000/- for the most luxurious stays! So, including everything, you will be spending an approximate amount between Rs. 4,000,000/- and Rs. 41,00,000/- for a span of 5 years of BDS course.
Coming to the MDS fee structure, its branch-oriented, and hence it is variable. If you are targeting non-clinical branches like Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine & Radiology, and Public Health Dentistry, you can expect fees ranging between Rs. 300,000/- per annum and Rs. 800,000 per annum.
On the other hand, for clinical branches, the annual tuition fee can range between Rs. 1,200,000 and as high as Rs. 1,650,000/-, based on the specialty you enroll in! You will be more intrigued to know that despite such a huge expenditure, I have seen students with an AIQ rank below 2K admitted to Saveetha during MDS counseling. The hostel fees for MDS students is similar to same as mentioned above.
Will Security Deposit Be Refunded—Clearing Confusions
As I stated above, I often come across students who are very doubtful about the security deposit fee. I completely understand your concern because it’s not a small amount. Hence, the confusion needs to be addressed. Therefore, to clear the air, I have added this exclusive note about the same for you!
Firstly, one thing is imperative: you are bound to pay the security fee for any counseling. It’s not a choice but a mandate! You will be eligible for the remaining steps only after payment of the security fee. It won’t be wrong to say that mere registration is also a waste of money if you don’t pay the security deposit fee!
Now even though the security deposit fee is high, the good news is, it is also refundable. However, it may take a substantial amount of time, around 6-7 months for the refund, but you will get it back. However, in certain cases, the security deposit is not refunded back, and I am going to talk about this below.
Commonly, the refund will be done by the counseling authority unless you make this major mistake. So, here I have listed the scenarios related to the forfeiture of the security deposit fee in the NEET UG counseling process.
- Students who don’t fulfill the NEET eligibility criteria still knowingly participate in the counseling. In such instances, even if the student gets an allotment using the wrong or fake details, they can’t escape the document verification. During this, the seat allotment will be canceled, and the security deposit fee will not be refunded! So, don’t do that! If you are unaware of the eligibility conditions required to participate in the NEET counseling, you can cross-check with us before applying.
- Secondly, if a student got an allotment during the 2nd round of counseling and did not report for document verification. In that case, he/she will end up losing the security fee deposit. The same applies to any subsequent rounds.
I hope now you understand the importance of the security deposit fees in the NEET counseling process. If you still have doubts, feel free to reach out to us any day!
Free Tips to Choose a Dental College
Choosing a good dental institute not only dictates your education goals, but it will also impact your entire dental career! Especially if you are a NEET UG aspirant, BDS is the very base of it! So before planning for your BDS admission, I will recommend some important parameters. This will help you to evaluate the dental colleges on your list, even though it might be Saveetha Dental College.
The first thing you must check is the recognition of the dental college. The Dental Council of India (DCI) recognition. A few dental colleges lack DCI recognition, which cannot be ignored! It’s the basic recognition for any dental institute. You can follow a motto here, I tell my students, which is “NO recognition—NO admission!”.
The same applies to the university affiliation of any dental institute. For instance, here Saveetha Dental College is affiliated with its deemed-to-be-university. Similarly, all dental colleges will be affiliated with a state health university or a deemed university.
Once you are sure, now you can explore factors such as academic exposure, education standards, curriculum followed, research conducted, teaching faculty, etc.
Additionally, you must check on the patient flow or OPD of the dental college. This is one of the most important factors for any dental student. You will need patients to practice your dental skills. So, the patient-student ratio is crucial to know before you join anywhere!
Now the infrastructure and facilities are to be evaluated as well. A good dental college with the latest technologies, like VIRSA in Saveetha Dental College or even the basic technologies, must be available! Currently the dental field is exploding with a myriad of technological developments. So the more, the better!
Some more parameters that I suggest to my clients are location and travel convenience. Safety and environment are equally important, mainly for students who relocate from their native regions to study elsewhere!
