Direct Admission to Vydehi Dental College Bangalore

Hi there! Before discussing the admission process to the Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Centre (VIDSRC), let me give you a brief idea about this famous institute. Vydehi Dental College is one of the most sought dental colleges in Karnataka. VIDS is around 22 years old and is a private dental institute. However, it is affiliated with the government health university of Karnataka, i.e., Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGHUS). The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate admissions and has 100 BDS and 21 MDS seats.

Every year when I counsel students for BDS and MDS courses, 6 out of 10 students inquire about this college. This is because Vydehi has an outstanding reputation in the state and offers great academic exposure. Additionally, the area is so huge that my legs ached while walking through the campus.

The college infrastructure includes a constituent medical college and hospital as well. I also noticed a decent patient flow in both the dental and medical colleges. Talking about the academic facility, the dental college is nicely built and furnished with lecture theaters, 200+ dental chairs, a library with 250+ seating capacity, hi-tech practical laboratories, and preclinical labs. The dental hospital was equipped with all modern technologies.

When I was walking through the dental college, I also tried having a few words with some students. I recall they were pursuing BDS in the third year and were heading for their clinical postings. I inquired with them regarding the academics, and one of them said that there were 70+ faculty members. The faculty are highly experienced and skilled.

As I passed the alleys and corridors of the building, I also noticed many banners on the walls of all departments. They were student projects, dental education or awareness, and also about the achievements of VIDS. Multiple students have achieved many awards for their research and participation in CDE programs.

They display active engagement of the students in both academic and co-curricular events. It also foretells the enthusiasm of the faculty, who encourages and guides them for the same.

The college campus also included separate girls’ and boys’ hostel facilities. The hostels were neatly maintained and also had a mess facility attached. There were different types of rooms available, and each hostel had an in-house warden who took care of the hostels and residents. One thing you must know is that it’s a vegetarian campus, so if you have a mixed diet, you have to settle your hunger outside the campus! 😆

Since the campus is quite vast, the administration has allowed bicycles for students to cover distances between academic blocks and hostels! I also noticed some YULU bikes parked outside the academic areas and hostels, which I assumed belonged to the students of VIDS!

VIDSRC is located in the Whitefield region of Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka. Since it is an urban area, it is well connected by all means of transportation. My visit to VIDSRC was so convenient because of the metro connectivity. The nearest metro station is just a 5-minute walk from the college. The locals helped me to trace the path, as it was my first visit. On my way, I also observed that there were multiple residential buildings, shops, and even student boardings just in the vicinity of the college.

My personal experience with VIDS was truly great and memorable. I liked the surrounding area and also the campus environment. I met students from various regions of India who seemed very satisfied with the academics and living conditions. So, if you want to check out the details of VIDSRC in a gist, please roll your eyes down! 😂 Here is the overview…

Admission Process to Vydehi Dental College, Bangalore

You must have already taken note of the affiliation of the Vydehi Dental College with RGHUS. It also happens to be the state health university of Karnataka. The admission process of such dental colleges is conducted through state counseling.

In Karnataka, the state NEET counseling is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). This applies to both government and private dental colleges affiliated with the RGHUS. The KEA counseling for BDS and MDS involves 9-10 steps, and here is the outline!

  1. Online Registration.
  2. Registration fees.
  3. Security fee.
  4. Document Verification
  5. Option Entry.
  6. Mock Allotment.
  7. Result Announcement.
  8. Reporting
  9. College Reporting.

Online Registration

Online application is your first step to entering the KEA counseling for joining dental courses in VIDS. It is conducted by the KEA online. You have to create your student profile using your NEET roll number and a password—additional information such as name, year of passing, 10th roll number, etc.  Once you do that, you have to pay the registration fee. Here it must be noted that once you pay the registration fee, the entered information becomes uneditable.

I recall an incident in 2023 when a UG student contacted me. Unfortunately, she made some errors while entering the credentials. Later, she had to visit the KEA on the day of reporting and get the correction done. Trust me! Dealing with KEA is tough and hectic, even with minimal corrections. So try to avoid such errors as much as you can!

As you complete the registration fee payment, you will be redirected to complete the application form. Once you complete the form, you can submit and retrieve the final copy of the form. The final copy of the form is required during the document verification process in KEA. It is mandatory to be produced in front of the officials there. So, don’t miss out on it!

Registration Fee

I have spoken about the registration fee payment in the previous section. The registration fee is non-refundable, and download the receipt after you pay the fees. It is a crucial document required during your document verification at the KEA.

The registration fee in KEA for BDS courses is Rs. 750/- for Karnataka domicile students and Rs. 5000/- for non-Karnataka students. Foreign national students have to pay Rs. 5000/- as the form registration charges in KEA.

Likewise, the registration fee is variable for MDS applicants. Karnataka domicile students have to pay a fee between Rs. 750/- and Rs. 1500/- depending upon their category. Any non-Karnataka students must pay Rs. 4000/- irrespective of their category, and Rs. 7000/- is the registration fee for foreign national students.

Security fee

The security fee is applicable and refundable in all NEET UG and MDS counseling. However, students don’t have to pay the security fee in round 1 of KEA counseling. The security fee payment is applied here from round 2 onwards.

Say, for example, that you have applied for counseling in the first round and fortunately also got allotted. You need not have to pay the security deposit fee to the KEA. However, if you don’t get an allotment or you want to upgrade your choices for round 2 in such instances, you have to pay an amount of Rs. 1,00,000/-. The challan for payment will be available online; you can download a copy of the payment receipt after completion.

Document Verification

If you have read our articles on the admission process of other states, you must have observed that document verification is usually the last step. Unlike in the KEA counseling, it’s midway! In Karnataka counseling, one has to visit the KEA even before allotment for the document verification procedure. It’s compulsory to visit the KEA, as per the schedule announced by them. Usually,  it is completed in a day at the KEA office in Bangalore. However, if you are traveling from another region, extend your stay for 1 or 2 more days. Since the number of applicants in Karnataka is huge, the KEA sometimes extends the verification dates. So, you must keep that in mind when you plan your return tickets!

One important point here is that if you fail to visit the KEA for document verification, you cannot proceed further in the counseling. Post the document verification procedure, students have to collect their verified slips online/offline. This document contains a specific CET number, which is required for option entry.

Option Entry

The verified students will be eligible to add the college choices. MDS students have to add college and branch preferences as well. This is a basic step, which is called the choice-filling round or option entry round. In KEA, option entry can cause you slight confusion because the colleges are assigned specific codes. If you face any difficulty, you can talk to us before you make your choices.

However, it’s more important that you prepare your list of choices prior to adding them. You must evaluate the college quality and academics of the dental colleges you are planning to join BDS or MDS. There are 47 dental colleges in Karnataka, and I understand that it’s not easy for you to learn about each one of them. So, if you need assistance to shortlist the best options, you can reach out to us for guidance!

Mock Allotment

Mock allotment is a unique feature or round you will only find in Karnataka NEET counseling. Other states don’t have this round. The KEA will announce the results, which will give you a probable idea of your allotment. However, it’s not the final outcome. You can only gauge the chances of your allotment and allotted college/branch. Hence, it’s called mock allotment.

The mock allotment is significant because it gives you a second chance to edit your choices. Based on the mock result, you can change your preferences. It’s not compulsory to edit the choices if you get favorable mock results.

Result Announcement

Once option entry editing is closed, the KEA announces the final and actual allotment results. If you get allotted and you are satisfied with the outcome, you have to proceed to pay the college fee. Once you pay the college fee, you will receive an admission confirmation.

Reporting

Now comes the reporting again! Allotted students have to re-visit the KEA for submission of original documents. You also have to collect your admission order from the KEA authorities.

College Reporting

Once your formalities are over with the KEA, you must then report to the admission department of the allotted dental college. Finally, your admissions process will be concluded here!

If you are planning to join VIDS, you must also plan an extra fee ranging anything between Rs. 45,000/- to Rs. 1,00,000/-. This is decided by the college and varies every year. You can assume it is a miscellaneous fee in Karnataka dental colleges.

MDS aspirants can expect a fee structure of Rs. 2,65,750/- and  Rs. 3,72,826/- per annum for G-quota seats for non-clinical and clinical branches, respectively. The P-quota fee is uniform and is around Rs. 6,81,434/- annually.  The NRI and the Q-quota fees can range from Rs. 6,81,434/-  to Rs. 15,15,750/- based on the speciality of your choice.

You too can expect a miscellaneous fee at VIDS; that applies to any speciality you are allotted to. Consider around Rs. 1,00,000/- extra if you are planning to join VIDSR, Bangalore!

The hostel and mess charges range from Rs. 1,30,000/-  to Rs. 1,50,000/-  based on the type of room facility. However, this is a subject of change, as it completely depends upon the college management authorities!

How Can I Help You?

By now, surely you have the idea that KEA counseling is complex compared to other NEET counseling. I can understand that because we have been guiding BDS and MDS for the KEA counseling for many years. I often come across students who face difficulties in the middle of the rounds. Sometimes, the worst-case scenario is that even we aren’t able to rectify their errors.

So, we suggest students approach us before participating in the NEET UG counseling. This eliminates the risks of unwanted errors and also allows us to offer you better guidance. Since our guidance process is not just about admission but also about helping you shortlist the best course, college, and specialty (only for MDS),. This is attributed to our hard-working and smart team of NEET counselors!

Most of our counselors come from a BDS or MDS background. So, our suggestions or advice are driven by our own field experiences. We have been there and done that! 😄 That itself simplifies a lot for our clients because the goal is to deliver the best quality and not just push you to any random college!

Karnataka NEET counseling also has multiple seat categories, primarily G-quota, P-quota, Q-quota, and NRI-quota. Further subcategories make it more complex to understand for a student; which category you must apply? We also guide students to learn about these and choose the right one.

Few categories have a lesser fee compared to NRI or management quota, but the eligibility criteria or even your rank might not match those. In such cases, we will guide you to make wiser decisions and try to benefit from a lesser fee structure, if possible!

We assess your requirements, and based on that, we will guide you to the best options. Precisely the practical aspect is applied based on your college interest, NEET rank, location preferences, category, fee expectations, and even travel conveniences! In the case of MDS aspirants, we also help to make the right branch choice based on the present scenarios and future scope. Of course, it’s not an obligation to agree to our suggestion; you still get to take the last call!

Once we both are on the same page, one of our mentors will assist you throughout the NEET counseling process. You can have a look at the services we will offer you for admission to dental courses at Vydehi Dental College.

Talking about this, I would also like to highlight that our admission guidance is also based on reviews from our past students across various dental colleges and alumni reviews. You can go through our Google reviews as well! You can get to know us before pressing the calling bell! 😃
