Hola Everyone! You must have already heard of this famous dental college in Karnataka, M.S. Ramaiah Faculty of Dental Sciences (MSRFDS)! It’s considered the best dental college in Karnataka and a dream college for many dental aspirants. Established in 1991, it is affiliated with the State Health University of Karnataka—Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGHUS). It offers both BDS and MDS in all branches of dentistry.
I visited MSR Dental College a few times, but out of that one particular visit, the experience always stayed with me. This was when I had to accompany one of my MDS students who enrolled in the dental college. That day I could actually experience every aspect of the college, starting from the admin block to the hostel campuses. Talking about the administrative unit, of course it’s no less than extravagant and beautifully designed.
It wasn’t that surprising for me, because of course Bamgalores best dental college is bound to display such extravaganza! What intrigued me was the environment and people working there. I was humbled by their respectful and considerate attitude towards students and visitors. Each and every individual, including the admin, was very generous and well-mannered. It was very impressive.
I often visit dental colleges and meet many people, but rarely do we find such considerate individuals in big dental giants. However, I feel it’s very important that every dental institute have such people. This makes students feel safer and stay positive throughout the course.
I headed to the first department in MSR Dental College, which was Oral Medicine & Radiology. If you truly want to evaluate the OPD of any dental college, the best place is to start here. This is because the OMR department deals with diagnosis, and every patient first visits here, before being referred to any other department for treatment. I could see about 25-30 patients still waiting for the initial check-up, and it was around noon. So, I spoke to a few postgraduates from the department to get an idea of the regular OPD, treatment protocols, and academic exposure.
They revealed that the regular OPD is around 140–160 patients per day. This is a good number considering the total BDS and MDS students; the average student-patient ratio would be around 1:3. Additionally, the academics were stated to be great in MSRFDS.
They mentioned research studies, paper publications, case studies, and even participation in various conferences. A special mention about dental camps in a few remote locations to expose was encouraged for both BDS and MDS students. The goal is to indulge budding doctors in community dental practice.
As I visited all departments one after another, I was introduced to some excellent facilities present there. Talking about the department of conservative dentistry, I could see all the basic technology available. What caught my attention were the latest advances, such as the Acteon Satelec P5 Newtron self system for self irrigation, the Densply Therma Prep Plus Obturator for root canal treatments, and microscopic endodontics, which were practiced under the LABOMED Prima Dental Operating Microsopes.
These are only a few, which I still remember, but I assure you that many other advanced technologies were there in the department.
Likewise, the Oral Medicine Radiology department was structured with the CBCT and Pain Management Clinic. The department practiced various types of biopsies, intralesional injections, TENS therapy, photodynamic therapy, and laser treatments.
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department had boasted their cases on the high walls of their department. I could spot cases of cleft surgery, distraction osteogenesis, and various cosmetic surgeries are also carried out in the OMFS department. One of the postgraduates also shared that, they have treated patients with cysts and jaw deformities.
One of my students who has enrolled in for MDS the Department of Public Health Dentistry in 2023, has shared her experience with me so far. She mentioned clinical practice in her department, dental camp visits to various districts of Karanataka, dental conference participation, and encouraging HOD and faculty in her department.
She also cited something about developing an application to detect dysplasias, which happens to be her dissertation. I recall speaking about various observation programs and cases studies as well. Hearing such a description from my past student fills me with great joy and satisfaction as well!
Plus, I have rarely seen such active non-clinical departments in most dental colleges. However, she tells a unique story about her experience at MSR Dental College. Her achievements and satisfaction as a postgraduate are an integral part of my success story!
Surely, by now you must have already gauged an idea about the well-designed infrastructure of the MSR Dental College. Honestly, I will fall short of words if I have to describe you about each department through this article. So, in case you want to learn more about individual departments of the college, I suggest you have a verbal conversation with me instead! Now allow me to do some justice to the overall infrastructure of the college. The dental college is collaborated with Aster Hospitals for general OPD patients.
Apart from that, the classrooms are equipped with digital screens and comfortable seating arrangements. The practical laboratories had all kinds of equipment for preclinical practice and experiments. Research laboratories, a library, and outdoor and indoor sports areas are also part of the grand infrastructure.
The UG students seemed quite enthusiastic, and a few students whom I guided for enrollment in BDS a few years back gave a great review about academics, patients, and faculty.
After I finished with the MSRFDS college and hospital, I headed towards the hostel campus. It was quite a long walk, and I observed many eateries present in the vicinity. I happened to try some savory foods, which tasted delicious. There were multiple types of hostels, and mess facilities were also available.
However, my MDS students preferred to take up accommodation outside the campus. There are many boarding facilities near the MSR area, and it is safe. So, if you intend to take up boarding outside, you can consider that option as well.
MSR Dental College is established over 85 acres of land and is beautifully built. The area is lush green and has different institutes built within it. The MSR medical college, the MSR pharmacy college, the nursing college, and many other such institutes are located on the campus. Now, to sum up, I have added the overview of the MDRFDS below. You can have a look into it!

Admission Process to M.S. Ramaiah Dental College, Bangalore
Since M.S. Ramaiah Dental College is a private dental college affiliated with RGHUS, the dental admissions are conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). This is administered through the state counseling process for all medical and dental courses.
So, if you are planning to join BDS or MDS in MSRFDS, adequate information of the counseling steps of the KEA counseling is a must! Unlike other counseling conducted across different states, KEA counseling is slightly different. It involves 9–10 steps, and it is important to know about each step precisely. So, I have tried to explain the admission process at MS Ramaiah Dental College in the simplest way possible. Hopefully, you will gather the appropriate information after going through it!
- Online Registration.
- Registration fees.
- Security fee.
- Document Verification
- Option Entry.
- Mock Allotment.
- Result Announcement.
- Reporting
- College Reporting.
Online Registration
The initial step of KEA registration is creating your login ID and password. During this, you have to add credentials such as your NEET Roll No., registered email ID, registered phone number, 10th and 12th passing year, your address, caste, category, etc,.
Once you add this information and register, it cannot be edited or changed. So, before clicking on the’register tab’, make sure you have entered your correct details. Your remaining form information will depend on the details you have entered on the first page!
Registration Fee
Like any other registration, a registration fee also applies in KEA for both BDS and MDS applications. Please note that the registration fee is non-refundable.
Once you complete the initial registration details and confirm the information, you have to pay the registration fee. If you are a Karnataka UG candidate, you must pay Rs. 750/-, and if you are from outside Karnataka, you must pay Rs. 5000/- as the registration fee.
On the other hand, MDS applicants with Karnataka domicile have to pay Rs. 750/- (Special Categories) and Rs. 1500/- (General Category). If you are a non-Karnataka candidate, Rs. 4000 will be the registration fee.
Once you complete the fee payment, you will receive your login credentials from the KEA. You have to re-login on the KEA website and complete the remaining pages of the form. The further pages require information such as a record of 10 years of education, pass BDS college details for MDS applicants, complete address, bank account details, taluk details, etc.
Apart from that, you also have to upload a few documents, such as the 10th marksheet, 12th marksheet, and adhar card for UG applicants. MDS applicants have to upload BDS marksheets and adhar cards. Your photograph, signature, and thumb impressions are also required to complete the form.
Truly speaking, the KEA NEET counseling form is vast and requires a lot of information. Sometimes, it’s pretty confusing because there are various clauses and criteria you must select in subsequent pages. So, in case you want to have a word with us or seek assistance, you can reach out to us!
Security fee
Unlike registration fees, security fees are refundable. It is however mandatory for every student to pay the security deposit. Till now, KEA has made this fee applicable only from the second round of counseling onwards.
Students who participated in the first round of KEA and also got allotted don’t have to pay the security fee deposit! The security fee deposit in KEA counseling is Rs. 1,00,000/- for both BDS and MDS applicants.
Just remember to download your payment receipts, the final registration form copy, and your registration fee receipt. All these are crucial documents required during document verification in the KEA counseling.
Document Verification
Now, comes the document verification. Once the online registration is over, document verification is scheduled offline by the KEA. You must have seen or read that this step is usually carried out after allotment in other counseling. However, this is a twist in KEA!
You have to come for document verification in Bangalore to the KEA office to get all your documents verified. Please mind that, it is compulsory to appear for document verification. Only when you undergo this round will you receive your verification slip.
A verification slip is like a ticket to enter the remaining rounds of counseling. It contains information required to go ahead with the option entry round. Verified candidates might receive this online or offline from the KEA office, depending upon the rules set by them. However, if you don’t appear for verification in the KEA office, you won’t receive the verification slip even online!
Option Entry
Verified students have to login to the KEA website again for option entry. Your login information is in the verification slip. You have to add your course and college choices if you are an UG applicant. MDS applicants must also add the specialty of interest.
Another twist in the KEA comes here. Once you complete your first option entry, you will get your mock allotment only. You can read about it in the next section. Post mock allotment, the actual or main option entry is carried out. However, that doesn’t mean you can skip the first, or you can call it a’mock-option entry’!
Mock Allotment
This is another tiwst in the KEA counseling-Mock allotment! You can take it like ‘a trailer’ before the film, haha! This is because your mock results are not the real allotment outcome. However, it will give you an idea about the chances and a relatable idea about your actual allotment results.
Once mock results are out, the final option entry round takes place. Now here you can edit your previous option entries. You can add, delete, or shuffle the order even! This is not compulsory, if you are satisfied with your mock allotment!
Result Announcement
Followed by the mock allotment, the KEA will next release the final allotment result. Here you get to check your allotment status and choose to report for admission confirmation or participate in the next rounds of counseling. You will also have to make the college fee payment if you have been allotted to a dental institute.
Not-allotted students can also participate in the next rounds to get the desired allotment.
Reporting
Students who get allotted must report again to the KEA. You have to submit your original documents and collect your admission order. This is a mandatory step, and you must arrive at the KEA as per their schedule and instructions. Missing out on this step will lead to admission cancellation!
College Reporting
Once you get your admission letter, visit the allotted college to inform them about your allotment. Here, after your remaining formalities, we will start with your allotted institute. The KEA counseling and admission process ends here for you!

M.S. Ramaiah Dental College Seat Matrix & Fee Structure
The seat matrix of Karnataka counseling is divided into four main categories. Out of these, one is purely reserved for Karnataka domicile students only. This is called the G-quota seat or government quota seat.
Likewise, the next category, which is the P-quota category or private seat category, has a certain amount of seats reserved for only Karnataka domicile students. Despite being a state category, it also has a certain amount of seats reserved for non-Karnataka students. These are called open seats; however, you need a good rank to get an allotment in any state category. This is because both the G and the P quota seats have a lesser fee structure compared to the remaining two categories. In the Karnataka seat matrix, the reservation percentage of G-quota and P-quota is 40% each.
The remaining two categories in the KEA seat matrix are 15% NRI and 5% Q-quota seats. NRI seats are reserved for foreign applicants, and Q-quota is open to everyone.
I would like to give you an overview regarding the seat reservation at MSR Dental College. In MSR there are a total of 50 BDS seats , out of which 10 are G-quota seats, 20 are P-quota seats, 7 are NRI-quota seats, and 3 are Q-quota seats.
So an application from Karnataka has full rights to get a G-quota seat, which has the privilege of a lower fee structure. On the other hand, a non-karntaka student is eligible for only P-quota and Q-quota. Here in MSR Dental College, the P quota fee is lesser compared to the NRI and Q quota. However, a good rank is needed to save your pockets! An NRI applicant can apply for both NRI and Q-quota. In both of these categories, the fee structure is quite high compared to the state quota seats. I have added the table of fee structure for MSR Dental College below; you will get a better understanding if you go through it!

Seat Categories in Karnataka | G-Quota | P-Quota | Q-Quota | NRI-Quota |
Annual Tuition Fee | 96058 | 642700 | 992700 | 992700 |
The MDS seat matrix in Karnataka also has the same seat division (40% G-quota, 40% P-quota, 15% NRI-quota, and 5% Q-quota). There are 40 MDS seats, including all nine dental specialties.
The reservation applies branch-wise and also varies every year. However, the fee structure advantage lies with both G-quota and P-quota seats. NRI and Q-quota fees for MDS are some of the highest in MSR Dental College, among the 47 dental colleges in Karnataka.
Here, I have added the complete details of the fee structure of the MDS course you can expect at MSR Dental College, based on 2024.
