BDS Admission in Bangalore – Complete Procedures Explained

Hey there! You must be a medical aspirant seeking admission into the Bachelor of Dentistry (BDS) Course, right? You must have heard about Bangalore, the “Silicon Valley of India”!

Bangalore is the capital city of Karnataka and is admired for its green landscape, lovely climate, and huge education industry.

The Dental Colleges in Bangalore are a part of this industry and a major asset to the state. This is why almost every dental aspirant is drawn to this city!

So, through this blog, we will explore the complete process of your BDS admission in Bangalore. I have highlighted all the admission process steps, the dental colleges, BDS seats, BDS fee structure, etc. So, stick along!

BDS Admission Process in Bangalore

All the dental colleges in Bangalore are affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGHUS), a central university of Karnataka. Hence, the BDS admission process into all these colleges in Bangalore is managed and conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) http://kea.kar.nic.in/.

It is popularly referred to as KEA counseling, Karnataka’s state counseling. No other counseling is exclusively conducted for admission into dental colleges located in Bangalore.

Once you qualify for NEET, you must participate in the KEA counseling to obtain a BDS degree in Bangalore. You must follow some steps throughout the counseling process, which I have added below for your reference.

  1. Online Registration.
  2. Registration fees.
  3. Document Verification.
  4. Security Deposit (if applicable).
  5. Option Entry.
  6. Mock Allotment.
  7. Option Entry Editing.
  8. Final Allotment.
  9. Admission confirmation and fee payment.
  10. Reporting to the Allotted College.
  11. Reporting to KEA.

Online Registration

Your first step to KEA counselling is the online registration on their admission website (http://kea.kar.nic.in/).

Get all these things ready before you start your registration. Your details, residence details, caste/category details, complete past academic details, and your NEET exam details.

Once registration is done, you will get your login ID as well. Additionally, you will also have to create a password during the process. Since you have to remember both, note these down carefully!

Some documents must also be scanned and uploaded to complete the form. Your NEET score and 10th and 12th marksheet must be uploaded with the specific file size and format. My experience says that the specified size and format are usually less than or equal to 1 MB in PDF format.

Your passport-size photograph, signature, and thumbprint must also be uploaded during the form fill-up. These, too, have format and size specifications!

Registration Fees

The registration process is completed after the payment of the registration fees. After that, you must pay this fee and download the final copy of your form.

Have added the details of the payable registration fees for BDS admission in Bangalore below. Based on your category and domicile, these fees are variable.

BDS Registration Fees in Bangalore
CategoryKarnataka StudentNon–Karnataka Student
General category/UR500/-2500/-
SC/ST/Cat-1/PWD/ GM/2A/2B/3A/3B500/-2500/-
NRI/OCI/PIO/foreign nationals.N/a5500/-

Document Verification

If you are a Karnataka student, you must complete your document verification before allotment. However, non-Karnataka students claiming certain categories, like the NRI category, minority, etc, must attend this round.

On the contrary, non-Karnataka students don’t have to report before seat allotment, as per my last experience.

Reporting is usually carried out in the KEA office located in Bangalore. Seated authorities will check all your documents and certificates to verify your eligibility here.

Once complete, a Verification Slip will be released online/offline to all the candidates. This document is proof of your eligibility and carries very important information, which is mandatory to enter the option entry round!

If you need in-depth details, then go through my detailed article on documents required for BDS admission.

Security Deposit

Until 2022, the Security Deposit wasn’t applicable to participate in BDS counseling in KEA counseling.

This was a new modification in the 2023 BDS counseling process. The KEA charged Rs. 1,00,000/- lakh as a refundable security deposit from the second round of counseling onwards.

Option Entry

You will need the verification slip I mentioned before to enter this round.

Also, before the option entry round opens, KEA will publish seats and fees for the BDS course.

I suggest you check this out and plan your options well before you enter your college and course choices.

Mock allotment

Although the name may sound preliminary, this Mock allotment round is significant.

Firstly, participating in this round is compulsory; secondly, it is very helpful in assessing your chances of admission.

You will get an idea of your allotment and edit your choices before the results are announced!

Option Entry Editing

After the mock results, the editing window will open when you can edit the options entered in the mock round.

You can evaluate the mock results and add or even shuffle your choices if necessary.

Final Allotment

Based on your final choices, the final allotment is carried out. This is just after the option entry editing round is complete and closed.

The allotment is completed rank-based, and the outcome can be the same or vary from your mock result.

Admission Confirmation and Fee Payment

Admission Confirmation requires you to pay the tuition fees against the college you have been allotted. This amount can be paid online/offline through a payment challan provided by the KEA.

If you want to accept the allotted seat, you can confirm the admission on your profile.

Another important thing you must know is that your payment status will be reflected on your KEA profile.

Also, you must remember to collect the proof of payment required during the document verification process.

Reporting to KEA and Allotted College

Allotted students must report to the KEA for document verification.

The designated KEA authority will evaluate your original documents and certificates to verify your eligibility for your BDS admission confirmation.

You will be handed your admission order if everything goes well!

Finally, your admission process in Bangalore is completed here, and you will have to visit the allotted dental institute with your admission order.

BDS Seats and BDS Fees in Bangalore

The availability of seats and the fee structure of the BDS course are among the most common queries I have encountered. You, too, must be wandering about it! So, talking about that is essential!

Currently, there are 16 Dental Colleges in Bangalore. There are four categories of BDS seats available in the Karnataka Seats Matrix: Government (G) seats, Private (P) seats, NRI (N) seats, and Others (Q) seats.

Including all seat types, there are 1150 BDS seats available for BDS admission. The fees for BDS in Bangalore range from Rs.10 lakhs to Rs.28 lakhs for the entire course, depending on the college.

The Total Cost for BDS in Bangalore

At DentalFry, we believe in preparing our students for the complete scenario. So here it is! Your complete budget for BDS in Bangalore.

I will divide these extra expenses into three categories. The miscellaneous college fees, the hostel fees, and the living expenditure or the pocket money!

The miscellaneous fees can range between 45,000/- to Rs. 80,000/- per year. This fee depends from college to college and includes your university fee, exam fee, library fee, material charges, sports and co-curricular activities, etc.

Next is your hostel charges in Bangalore, which vary with college and facility type. An average hostel cost is around Rs.1,00,000/- to 1,50,000/- in Bangalore.

How can we forget the pocket money? It’s most important!😉 That, too, can vary widely, depending upon your lifestyle. Still, for a basic idea, a monthly allowance of Rs. 5,000/- to Rs.10,000/- must be sufficient for a comfortable living in Bangalore.

Why Choose BDS Admission in Bangalore?

I will explain why you should choose Bangalore as your study destination. So, here are some benefits of studying BDS in Bangalore!

The Location! Since Bangalore is the state capital, communication and accessibility are more convenient here!

Experienced Institutions! Bangalore boasts many old dental colleges, which are the most privileged institutions today. Certainly! It’s a great deal if you get an opportunity to study in one of them. Isnt it?

Academics! The colleges are affiliated with a central university (RGUHS), an excellent education university in India. The BDS curriculum is strictly followed here and is more standardized and advanced.

The Teachers! The faculty who teach in most colleges are highly experienced and skilled. So, you get a good exposure in terms of academics as well.

The Infrastructure! In Bangalore, I have seen most dental colleges have a good and nicely built infrastructure with basic to advanced facilities required to complete the course.

The OPD! If you have to learn dental treatment, you need patients to practice. Most dental colleges in Bangalore have a good daily patient flow. Sometimes, you must wait longer than expected to get a dental check-up.

The Future Planning! If MDS is your plan, you can benefit from the state quota seat of Karnataka.
